Year 10

Abbey College Birmingham has many years of experience in catering for the transition from Year 9 into our Year 10. Students quickly acclimitise to the more adult-oriented level of expectations and the environment than they may have previously been used to.

As an independent college, we are highly specialised in providing a personalised programme to improve on KS3 attainment levels.

We use information from enrolment and previous schools to inform each student's GCSE programme. Often, we invite students in before the start of year 10, in order to target key subjects and support their transfer.

With the aid of teacher written resources, small group coaching and continuous positive support before term commences, students quickly become acclimatised to the Abbey Experience

Subjects

The GCSE curriculum is as follows a core and option structure: All Y10 students take the following core subjects:
English Language
English Literature
Mathematics
Science/Additional Science (with the option of Triple Science at Year 11)
ICT

Plus Options:
One Modern Foreign Language
History or Geography
Business Studies, Media Studies or Art
Students also take citizenship and PE as a part of national curriculum

YEAR 11

Every year, a number of families make the decision to move their son or daughter to Abbey to complete their GCSE Year 11. We have a wealth of experience in tailoring an academic programme to suit. During the interview, we will identify prior attainment and specification coverage and build in a catch-up programme to suit the individual student. When students enrol before the start of the term, we begin coaching them during the summer holidays for an effective transition.

GCSE Intensive: Maths in November or English in January
