Abbey College hosts Badminton Tournament, Wednesday 19th October

Abbey College hosted a badminton tournament at the National Indoor Arena for eight teams from across the city, with Joseph Chamberlain College, Small Heath School, Bishop Walsh (2 teams), Broadway School, Holte School and Moseley School taking part.

The event was a round robin competition, consisting of 4 singles and one doubles game in each match, with the top two from each group going through to the semi finals.  In the group stages, Abbey College first match was aginst Holte School.  This was a tightly contested game, with the teams finishing equal on points in the singles games.  Going into the doubles, the current Aston Schools' champions were too strong for Abbey, so Holte won the match 3-2.  The Abbey Squad easily won their two other group matches against Small Heath School and Bishop Walsh School B to progress to the semi finals.

In the semi final, unfortunately, Abbey College came up against a very strong squad from Joseph Chamberlain College that hosts a Badminton academy for their students and lost the match 1-4.

Overall, a great start for our badminton squad, the next tournament is sheduled for December.
