Chinese & Vietnamese New Year Celebration 2012 - 23rd January新年快乐 / 新年快樂 (Happy New Year!)
Abbey College recently celebrated Chinese and Vietnamese New Year
by decorating the college reception area and offering traditional
Chinese snacks in the common room for all to try.
The GCSE students (Abu, Gurpreet, Aishah, Kevin, Yan, Soban and
Fatima) arranged for the traditional 'red packets' shared at
Chinese New Year to be available for s...ale at the college with
the proceeds going to charity. They raised over £50 for
Oxfam.
Inside the red packets were kind messages and well wishes for the
new year written in Chinese. The red packets were delivered to form
rooms and the receiver asked one of their Chinese friends to
translate it for them.
It was a lovely event where all students were able to share
cultures and positivity for the coming year (and of course their

Abbey College Birmingham GCSE students gained an insight into Nigerian culture after listening to a thought-provoking presentation by Mr. Yero, Vice Principal of the Capital Science Academy in Nigeria.
