Dragon's Den Day

21st October 2010

All the students at Abbey College took part in a skills workshop day themed along the lines of the famous television programme Dragon's Den.  Some of our students expressed a wish to do something along these lines and so we decided we would like to make it happen.  After seeing the success of various tutor time activities, we thought it would be a great opportunity to get the students to work together and forge strong relationships between our different nationalities and year groups.

The students were organised into work groups who would compete against each other to present their business idea to the Dragons.  The gorups created logos, developed business plans, made examples and advertisements.  Particular thanks should go to the Media department who were able to teach students who would otherwise be unable to use this equipment how to film and edit appropriately.  Many students identified transferable skills such as leadership and time management as being beneficial.

There was no shortage of teacher volunteers to act as a Dragon who would ask questions and challenge the students on their ideas before deciding who the most successful teams were.

The winning teams were called 'Dynamics' the team included: Adedji Abdul, Dominic Cross, Shyam Karavadra, Po-Kai Wang, Adel Massalimova, Emilia Richmond, Fadumo Ainte, Amit Patel and Andi Xhaferi. 'ABC Advertisements' team included: Wanyi Yang, Maya Sharma, Safwan Patel, Anuveer Mann, Thi Kieu Anh Phung, Rohail Safeer, Minh Ngan Tran, Hui Lin Wu and Adnan Khan.

Congratulations to both groups!
