Extreme weather will not affect exams

We have been informed by JCQ (Joint Council of Qualifications) that there will be no contingencies for students who miss any public exams due to severe weather conditions. For re-take students doing legacy A level units there will be no more sittings in the summer and this will be the last chance to take the examination papers even if Birmingham is in a state of 'wipe out'. Upper sixth re-sitting units or one years doing new A levels need not be as concerned as their units will be available in the summer.

In the light of the above information our best advice is to book into a city centre hotel the night before a morning exam (in particular) if you anticipate any difficulties in getting into college. There is a Travel Lodge in walking distance of the college. If students arrive more than 30 minutes late for an exam that starts as 9.30am or 1.30pm the exam board will almost certainly reject the paper.

We feel it would be a high risk strategy to try and sit the papers at a local centre as the transfer arrangements are too lengthy at this stage to guarantee that the papers would actually re re-directed to another centre.
