Newman University College Trip

On Thursday 17th November Abbey's English A-Level students visited Newman University College to get a taste of English in higher education.

Students attended two lectures; the first on language change through the ages, the second on the more recent effects of language change and subsequent diversity of language in youth culture.

The lectures supported the current studies of students, who, at both AS and A2, cover a wide range of topics; many of these have an immediate relevance to students as it is the language they are using every day - everything from slang words like 'sick' and 'innit', to interjections like the, now infamous, 'WhatEVer!'

Students behaved impeccably on the trip and it was clear that the lectures helped to crystalise some of the details of their studies.
