On 21st June a group of students accompanied by staff visited the London School of Economics for a private tour and question and answer session.

We were greeted by Caroline Johansen from the LSE student recruitment team, who took the group on a half hour tour which included visits to the main Library, a typical small tutorial classroom, as well as the main lecture theatre.

Caroline explained the geographical and academic structure of the LSE and then hosted a lively session answering some very perceptive questions from the students.

This session lasted about fourty minutes and covered a range if issues from student accommodation to academic admissions policy.

What emerged was an institution which clearly had very high academic standards, with a wide range of alumni in senior positions in an impressive range of private sector companies and government agencies.

After the LSE visit, students went to Covent Garden market in an attempt to lighten their wallets and purses. (The teachers looked on with envy!).  The next destination was the British museum where students had lunch followed by two hours exploring the vast selection of exhibits on display.

At 4.30pm, the seven of us assembled outside the museum for the return journey to Birmingham.

A tiring but very rewarding and enjoyable day was had by all. The students returned with full knowledge of the workload ahead of them if they are to successfully attend LSE!
