Accounting

Why study Accounting at Abbey College Birmingham?

The emphasis at Abbey is on constant working of examples which is the most effective way of studying this subject. A wide range of resources is available for this both hard copy and on-line

Subject Overview

AS modules provide an introduction to a range of financial accounting ( profit and loss, balance sheets) and management accounting (production of budgets) issues. Both modules are assessed by written examination. At A2 both financial accounting and management accounting are developed with a range of interesting and challenging topics including cash flow statements, accounting theory, standard costing, social accounting, and more advanced final accounts including limited companies. Emphasis is placed on the use of actual company accounts which are used to show how theory integrates with accounting practice. Again both A2 papers are assessed by written examination. NB A high degree of mathematical ability is not needed for this subject.

Teaching Approaches

Accounting at Abbey is very practical with a strong emphasis on working examples. This has proved the most effective way of preparing students for the numerical questions which appear in examinations.
