Why study German at Abbey College Birmingham?
"We import more from Germany than from any other country in the world; we export more to Germany than to any other country in the world bar the USA" Source: BBC News, November 2008
Subject Overview
The aim of the German department is to give you a firm grasp of the language and to share our excitement with regards to German culture and history.
At A-level we follow the new AQA course where we talk about German films, music, the media, fashion and sports to name just a few topics.
Teaching Approaches
German lessons are communicative, interactive and entertaining and you also experience the benefits of being taught by a native speaker.
Higher Education Opportunities
A degree in German opens up a great range of career possibilities, both in the UK and abroad; for example, the Civil Service; industry; commerce and marketing; public relations; banking and insurance; retail management; teaching; translation; advertising and the media.
Supportive Material
You should use every opportunity to connect with the German language and culture e.g. make full use of BBC and Channel 4 educational broadcasts, go on trips to German speaking countries, watch a German film and / or read German books.
Teaching staff: Sonja Freter (Examinations Officer).
