InformationMathematics and Further Mathematics
Why study Mathematics at Abbey College Birmingham?
Mathematics helps you to reason logically and to construct proofs and arguments to model real world situations. The skills learnt in A-Level Mathematics can be applied to a wide range of degree level subjects.
Subject Overview
AS Mathematics: Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1
A2 Mathematics: Mechanics 1, Core 3 and Core 4
Core Mathematics involves abstract concepts and the construction of rigorous extended arguments and proof. Statistics deals with the collection, organisation, representation, analysis and interpretation of data. Mechanics uses mathematical modelling to analyse real world situations predicting the movement of objects.
For those students who excel at mathematics there is the option at Abbey College of studying for A-Level Further Mathematics. Students would then study the following additional units:
A Level Further Mathematics: Further Pure 1, Further Pure 2, Further Pure 3, Statistics 2, Mechanics 2 and Decision 1.
