InformationGCSE Mathematics
Subject Overview
The course is assessed in two components:
Paper 1: Non-Calculator worth 50%
Paper 2: Calculator worth 50%
Regular tests and homework allow students to consolidate their
knowledge and receive essential exam practice throughout the
course. Students sit both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in May/June.
What specification is taught?
EDEXCEL Mathematics Linear GCSE. The Mathematics Department has had many year's worth of experience teaching this and previous EDEXCEL legacy syllabuses. You will either study for the Higher Tier or Foundation Tier paper which is dependent on your ability, however, most students at Abbey College are entered for the Higher Tier.
Teaching Approaches
In GCSE Mathematics you will build upon the work that you have learnt from Key Stage 3. You will be studying subject areas such as algebra, number, shape & space and statistics. At Abbey, we try to make GCSE Mathematics accessible to all our students. This is achieved by excellent explanations of subject matter. Much emphasis is placed on problem solving and practicing examination questions as early as possible.
Teaching Staff: Linda Manas, James Preston, Rita Sarna.
