Subject Overview
GCSE history is made up of two exam papers and one controlled assessment. This year, students chose to study "1920s gangsters" as their controlled assessment. The two exam papers are on British and German history. The Germany paper looks at post war Germany and the depression and how this led to the Nazis taking power, as well as the Holocaust. The British paper focuses on how the Brits worked together during the war, how women got the vote and how Britain became the state that it is today. This paper will give students a much stronger understanding of politics that will be useful when moving onto A-level.
Teaching Approaches
History is an excellent subject at GCSE because it begins to form higher level skills such as interpretation, evaluation and analysis of sources. Essays skills are also developed by structuring arguments for class debates and presentations. All lessons are designed not only to teach content but also the skills you are examined on.
Teaching staff: Sarah Bloomer (Head of Department, Key Stage 4 & Pastoral Manager).
