Subject Overview
Why Choose Media Studies? Media Studies is a vibrant and dynamic subject that deals with issues, debates and technologies many students take for granted every day. It allows students the opportunity to explore creatively and critically a wide range of media platforms and examples that they will find entertaining, informative and, ultimately, educational.
GCSE Media Studies attracts an increasingly large number of students every year because it makes learning interesting, challenging, creative and fun. It offers rigorous but accessible learning on a subject of key importance for young people's understanding of the world they experience. This new specification is intended to keep the best of the previous specification whilst responding to new technologies and media practices.
Teaching Approaches
At this level students are introduced to a range of media concepts and are encouraged to take a degree of ownership over their work. Controlled assessments are undertaken in creative 'workshops' and through individual case studies and presentations. Students will often take part in active discussions as well as real time mock examinations.
